Imran Khan opens up about his Divorce with Avantika Malik: “I Was Dealing With All Of This Baggage”

Imran Khan, a Bollywood actor, recently spoke out about his divorce from Avantika Malik, disclosing the personal challenges he experienced during their marriage. In an interview with India Today, Imran openly described the difficulties he had that led to the dissolution of his relationship.

Imran, who acknowledged his relationship with actress Lekha Washington a few months ago, explained that he was depressed at the time and understood his marriage was not working. “Without going too much into that part, because I’m hesitant to add a lot of fuel to the gossip fire, but as I was dealing with all of this baggage and my internal struggle, I did find that my marriage and my relationship were not helping any of that,” Imran continued.

Imran goes further on the ideal dynamics of a relationship, saying, “In an ideal, healthy dynamic between two people, you are both making each other better, healthier, stronger, and supporting each other to be the healthiest, best, and strongest version. We were not in that place.”

In a March interview with Vogue, Imran revealed his relationship with Lekha Washington and addressed stereotypes about her being a “homewrecker.” Imran stressed, “The rumor that I am romantically involved with Lekha Washington is real. ”  I am divorced and have been separated since February 2019.” He also highlighted his dissatisfaction with the storyline, saying, “There’s this narrative of Lekha being a homewrecker, which infuriates me because it’s not only misogynistic, but it also takes away my agency as an individual.”

Imran and Lekha’s bond apparently got stronger during the lockdown, despite the fact that both had split up with prior lovers. The duo has been spotted together at a number of events, including Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira’s wedding reception, where they posed for photos and interacted with guests.

The actor, best known for his appearances in films such as “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na,” “I Hate Luv Storys,” and “Delhi Belly,” is also set to return to Bollywood after a nine-year absence. While there were reports that he would star in Vir Das’ directorial debut, “Happy Patel,” Imran denied these assertions. His most recent film was “Katti Batti” in 2015.

Imran and Avantika married in 2011, and they have a daughter named Imara. Although rumors of their separation circulated in 2019, the pair has remained private about the reasons for their split until now. Avantika had hinted about their marriage problems on social media, and it was announced last year that they had officially split up.

As Imran Khan prepares for his professional comeback, his personal admissions shed insight on the complexity of his journey, emphasizing the value of mental health and supportive connections.
