The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned well-known television performers Nia Sharma, Krystle Dsouza, and Karan Wahi in relation to a money laundering case. This is a noteworthy move. The three actors, who are well-known for their parts in a number of hit TV series, are being questioned about their role in promoting OctaFX, an online forex trading platform that is being looked into for possible illegal activity.
With the supernatural drama “Suhagan Chudail,” Nia Sharma, who has made a comeback to television, reunites with Krystle Dsouza on the program “Laughter Chefs.” Together with Karan Wahi, who has acted in series like “Dill Mill Gayye” and “Channa Mereya,” both women have made a name for themselves in the entertainment world. The ED’s latest summons of them has garnered a lot of attention.
The stars are reportedly being questioned for their promotion of OctaFX, an online forex trading platform that is allegedly engaged in illegal trading through foreign brokers. When the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) learned that OctaFX was conducting business in India without a valid license, the Enforcement Department (ED) launched an investigation. The website is accused of misleading investors by claiming that forex trading would provide large returns, which resulted in a claimed profit of more than Rs 500 crore.
As part of its investigation, the ED searched a number of locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Kolkata in April. Digital gadgets, illicit documents, and bank funds worth Rs 2.7 crore were taken into custody. The Shivaji Nagar Police Station in Pune submitted a formal complaint (FIR) accusing multiple people of scamming investors using the OctaFX platform, which served as the basis for the agency’s investigation.
The examination found that the OctaFX website and app were connected to OctaFX India Private Limited, an Indian company, neither of which had the RBI’s approval to carry out currency trading. Due to the platform’s manipulation of trading activity and false information presentation, traders suffered large losses. Furthermore, a number of e-wallet accounts and fictitious companies were used to channel the investor money, with significant sums being sent overseas on false pretenses.
The ED has attached assets worth Rs 35 crore as part of the inquiry, including gold coins, bank accounts, and cryptocurrency. A network of professionals and chartered accountants that enabled money laundering and diversion to support OctaFX’s illicit operations was also discovered during the search operations.
The case has taken on additional dimensions due to the involvement of well-known television personalities such as Nia Sharma, Krystle Dsouza, and Karan Wahi in this probe. The ED’s interrogation of them highlights the investigation’s broad implications and the agency’s dedication to combating financial fraud and guaranteeing responsibility in the entertainment sector.
